Under the direction of Founder and Chairman, the Juan Carlos Maldonado Art Collection (JCMAC) focuses on the study and the recognition of Geometric Abstraction as a fundamental artistic language for the development of contemporary art history.

The core of the Collection focuses on modern art and traces the unfolding of geometric abstraction in Latin America, from the 1930s to 1970s.  It also includes the works of European and North-American artists such as Josef Albers, Max Bill, Alexander Calder, Victor Vasarely, Francois Morellet and Kenneth Noland, among many others, whose interest in geometric planes, chromatic relations, optical and kinetic effects tend to elicit discourse in relation to the work of Latin American practitioners.

Our main mission is to increase cultural awareness and to stimulate the education and appreciation for the geometric abstract style, beyond nationalities, by making our collection of artworks and documents accessible to individuals and organizations for consultation, scholastic research, and loan.

Making the Collection’s artworks available to the public through loans and exhibitions has been a critical component of JCMAC’s efforts to enhance appreciation of the geometric abstract styles.  The collection has lent works to exhibitions held at important institutions, among are: Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Whitney Museum of Modern Art, New York; Perez Art Museum Miami, The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum at FIU, Miami; Pinacoteca do Estado de Sao Paulo and MALBA, Buenos Aires.

Because we believe in the potential of art and knowledge of it as instruments for social change, JCMAC’s introduction and promotion of these Latin American masters is as important as the collected works themselves. This is why in 2016 we opened a temporary space in Miami’s Design District and intends to further its mission by creating a permanent base for the collection in the same Miami area.  The main goal of this space is to provide access to works in the collection and beyond through permanent and temporary exhibitions. At JCMAC, we aspire to contribute to the enrichment of Miami’s ever-growing cultural environment by developing an educational program that will add to the global artistic discourse.  The Collection looks forward to establishing a dialog and to collaborate with other cultural programs in the area, looking to secure Miami’s cultural role in the global art scene.

Our continued commitment to increase the awareness and knowledge of the Constructive style is expanded with this Web project. Visitors are encouraged to research and explore biographies, movements, and masterworks in the different sections of our site. We sincerely hope you enjoy learning about our artists as much as we do!
